NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS

Or rather lack of them.  So much for making the effort to write more on my blog this year and here we are already over half way through January.

The canal has been free of ice now for two or three weeks so have even seen the odd hardy canoist out once again.  Fishermen were also scattered along the towpath obviously participating in a competion, but only once.  February and March will probably see them around more, before the canal is closed for fishing in the Spring,   No boaters have ventured past though, but in a month or so should see some strangers on the canal.  To access our section of the canal there are something like 22 locks between Frimley and the Wey Navigation, and it is only certain times of the year the locks are 'open' to enable boats to travel through.  Once the water level starts to drop on the canal in the summer months, then the locks are closed again.

There is one lock in the other direction which we need to use if we wish to travel to Fleet or Odiham, going past Farnborough airport on the way,  which is a good spot to be when the air show is on.  The next one will be summer 2012.

Haven't seen the swans since before Christmas,  so presume that the cygnets have been ejected from their home by now.  Some geese drifted past yesterday and there's always ducks about.  The moorhens did venture into the garden over Christmas but mainly due to the canal being frozen. 

So all in all very quiet by the canal,  although there is never a shortage of dog walkers, cyclists or strollers using the towpath regardless of the weather. 

Next month, I will definitely clear the old photos and try and find some new ones to put on here.
